WHO reports 3,324 new deaths from COVID-19 in the Americas

Geneva, April 21 (RHC)-- The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 147,850 new COVID-19 positive cases and 3,324 additional deaths were reported in the Americas region in the last 24 hours.

The health organization indicated on its website that this represents a 0.25 percent relative increase in cases and a 0.23 percent relative increase in deaths, compared to the previous day.  "Over the past seven days, the percentage change in deaths compared to the previous week was much higher than the percentage change in cases for Canada (9 percent in cases and 16 percent in deaths) and Guatemala (28 percent in cases and 75 percent in deaths)." 

The World Health Organization noted the percentage increase in other countries such as "Bolivia (-3 percent cases and 55 percent deaths), Bahamas (68 percent cases and 300 percent deaths), Cuba (6 percent cases and 106 percent deaths), Puerto Rico (42 percent cases and 117 percent deaths) and Trinidad and Tobago (137 percent cases and 600 percent deaths)."

The WHO also reported on Monday that more than 724,000 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus infection were reported worldwide, and the total number of these cases exceeded 141.05 million.

As of Monday morning, 141,057,106 cumulative cases of coronavirus and 3,015,043 coronavirus-associated deaths had been reported worldwide.  The number of confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases increased by 724,720 in the last 24 hours and the number of deaths increased by 10,955.
