Quito, August 11 (RHC)-- Workers, teachers, students, transporters and indigenous people of Ecuador carried out a large mobilization on Wednesday against the increase in fuel prices, among other products.

The president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie), Leonidas Iza, said Tuesday that the government of President Guillermo Lasso "has decided to continue and sustain the same policy of (Lenín) Moreno, conditioned by the International Monetary Fund (IMF)."

"The Ecuadorian people would not support an uprising, but neither can they support a devastated economy like the one we have today," said the union leader.   The demonstrations were called by the union of the Frente Unitario de Trabajadores (FUT), the Conaie and the Pachakutik movement.

Likewise, the heavy transport sector announced that they will exercise the right of resistance because they do not have the resources to operate their units "due to the increase in diesel prices."
