Mexico City, September 2 (RHC)-- The Puebla Group has expressed its support to the initiative presented by the Government of Mexico on the creation of a new regional organization that represents a space for discussion.

In a statement published on its website, the Puebla Group indicated that in this new organization the voices of all Latin American peoples will be heard "without impositions in the search to develop an agenda based on democracy, human rights and peace."

In addition, they said that the new entity could be the result of a new Celac (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States), "strengthened and empowered, of the current sub-regional integration mechanisms or the expansion of Unasur" (Union of South American Nations).

The Puebla Group asserted that what has happened in recent years with the Organization of American States (OAS) has revealed the lack of neutrality of this organization, as it is governed by the interests of the United States (U.S.) government.

"This has been demonstrated by the abusive interventions of Secretary General (Luis) Almagro in the legitimization of the coup d'état in Bolivia, and the launching of punitive military operations against Venezuela from the Colombian border," the text specifies.

The Puebla Group considers that this new mechanism, which would be empowered and independent, could serve as a new space for relations between the U.S. and Canada with the region, being "robust and constructive and in accordance with the priorities of both parties".

On July 24, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador proposed the creation of a Latin American integration organization to replace the OAS, "but in keeping with our history, our reality and our identities."
