La Paz, October 13 (RHC)-- In the face of attempts by right-wing sectors to destabilize the country, thousands of Bolivians gathered in different parts of the country for the "Wiphalazo" -- an event organized to undo the patriotic symbol recognized by the Constitution.

These mobilizations planned by social organizations and named as the "Great Wiphalazo," extended to the nine departments of the country and aims to claim the unity and cultural identity of the people.

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Freddy Mamani, described the mobilization in defense of the Wiphala as a meeting for the unity of the homeland and to consolidate the identity of the Bolivians.

Paragraph II of Article 6 of the Political Constitution of the State establishes that the red, yellow and green tricolor flag and the Wiphala are official symbols of the State.

Tuesday's demonstrations took place within the framework of the Day of Indigenous Resistance in opposition to the commemoration of the beginning of the Spanish Conquest, which every October 12 commemorates the arrival of the Spaniards to the American continent in 1492.

The events took place in the nine departments of the country and in three of them: Santa Cruz, La Paz and Cochabamba, were attended by President Luis Arce, who was accompanied by other representatives of the Movimiento Al Socialismo (MAS) party.

Today, different organizations are concentrated in the main areas of the country to vindicate this national symbol. According to a Bolivia TV report, people are gathering in Yacuiba, Trinidad, Riberalta, Oruro, El Alto, Sucre, among other cities.

The Wiphala is a sacred and ancestral symbol. It identifies the community system based on equity, equality, harmony, solidarity and reciprocity.

Regarding the National Strike called by right-wing groups linked to the 2019 coup d'état against former President Evo Morales, it had a low adhesion in the different departments of the South American country according to different local media and the assessment of the Government of Luis Arce.

According to the presidential spokesman Jorge Richter, the call to paralyze the country did not have the expected response and, on the contrary, assured that the country worked in an absolutely normal way in its great territorial extension.  He also rejected the warning of a new strike.

He affirmed that what happened on Monday was an institutional and political strike led by the so-called civic committees that reject the bill against the Legitimization of Illicit Profits, which was postponed while it is being socialized.

In his opinion, the citizens chose peace, tranquility, to work and to be able to attend their productive units, to generate economic resources for daily subsistence.
