Santiago de Chile, October 23 (RHC)-- Carabineros special forces were deployed this Friday to repress a completely peaceful demonstration in Plaza Dignidad, which celebrated two years since the beginning of the social outbreak in Chile.

Santiago, the capital, was the scene of a new day of police repression against a concentration in Dignity Square, in which protesters demanded freedom for political prisoners, detained during the social revolt of 2019.

The group of Carabineros arrived at about 6 p.m. to downtown Santiago to disperse the protest. According to reports, at least two people were arrested, including a minor, for the crime of public disorder.

As every Friday, and during these last two years, dozens of people took to the streets to remember the popular revolt of 2019 and demand the resignation of President Sebastián Piñera.

The protesters indicated that they will remain active and denounced that the actions of the public forces are carried out with complete impunity.  During the protest, which was mostly peaceful, barricades were erected in Vicuña Mackenna with Alameda and also with Almirante Simpson, specifically, in front of the Argentine embassy.

Meanwhile, lawyers and family members of Cristián Valdebenito, who died from the impact of a tear gas grenade in Plaza Dignidad, met with the National Prosecutor and called on Carabineros to collaborate with the investigation.
