Buenos Aires, November 15 (RHC)-- Argentina's political coalition, Juntos por el Cambio (Together for Change), has obtained a majority in the Chamber of Deputies and Senate after 89.3 percent of the polling stations were counted.
According to the results, Juntos por el Cambio garnered 42.9 percent of the votes in the Chamber of Deputies, while Frente de Todos (ruling party) obtained 33.2 percentage points. Furthermore, in the third of the Senate to be elected, the group of the former President and participant in the indebtedness of the country with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mauricio Macri, obtained 48.2 percent after a 92.9 percent of the votes were counted.
Based on the advance scrutiny, for the Chamber of Deputies the blank vote registered 2.9 percent and in the Senate 3.1 percent. For the Federal Capital, Juntos por el Cambio with its candidate María Eugenia Vidal reached 47 percent, with a difference of 21.9 percentage points over her political opponent Leandro Santoro.
After the results were known, President Alberto Fernández expressed that the country is heading towards economic recovery, "with this election ends a very hard stage in our country, marked by the economic crisis of the previous government," he said.
"Argentina, within the framework of these difficulties, is moving forward, we are getting back on our feet, a new stage is opening for our country (...) we need the great majorities to generate consensus", said the Head of State.
The Argentinean president recalled that the debt with the IMF is the greatest damage left by the government of the then President Macri, "this is the greatest obstacle we face to continue with the path of economic recovery, we must face the challenge to repair the damage left", he explained.
Referring to the progress in the work with the Congress, President Fernandez said that by this December he will send a bill that makes explicit the multi-year economic program for sustainable development, "this will contemplate the best understandings that our Government has reached with the IMF staff without renouncing to the principles of economic growth and social inclusion."
Earlier, the Minister of the Interior Eduardo Enrique de Pedro praised the participation and the calmness in which the elections took place. "It was a very good day, despite the fact that the rains affected the province of Chaco (where floods were generated) and some areas of the provinces of Entre Ríos," he said.
"I would like to thank the more than 104,000 presidents of the polling stations, 400,000 election monitors of all political forces who have guaranteed transparency", the Argentinean minister said.
