Tegucigalpa, December 31 (RHC)-- The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Honduras delivered this Thursday to Xiomara Castro the credential that accredits her as constitutional president of the country, democratically elected to govern for the next four years.

The presidential advisor of the CNE, Kelvin Aguirre, expressed to Xiomara Castro that "the credential represents the will of the Hondurans" who went to vote massively to guarantee the popular sovereignty.

He emphasized that Castro was given "a peaceful nation in which the rule of law is respected."   Credentials were also delivered to the elected vice presidents Salvador Nasralla, Doris Gutiérrez and Renato Pineda.

Rixi Moncada, also CNE councilor, remarked that "we have culminated the most transparent and successful election in the history of Honduras; for the peace achieved, for the massive participation, for the 100 percent of the votes and tallies counted, for the history of hope over fear."

On her part, Xiomara Castro, who will take office as president on January 27th, thanked the Honduran people for their support during the elections and highlighted that she is facing a great commitment for being the first female president of the Central American nation.

During the ceremony, the CNE began the process of delivering credentials to the 128 deputies of the Parliament for the parties Libre, Nacional, Liberal, Salvador de Honduras, Democracia Cristiana, and Anticorrupción.

President-elect Xiomara Castro, leader of the Libertad y Refundación (Libre) Party, won the elections with more than 1.7 million votes, against more than 1.2 million votes obtained by Nasry Asfura, candidate of the National Party.
