Hurricane Bonnie intensified this Tuesday to category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale
Mexico City, July 5 (RHC)-- Hurricane Bonnie intensified this Tuesday to Category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale while its center is located off the coast of Michoacán in Mexico, according to the National Meteorological Service.
The system is located 350 kilometers south-southwest of Punta San Telmo, Michoacán, and 400 kilometers southwest of Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, producing severe waves on the coasts of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán and Guerrero.
The tropical cyclone has maximum winds and gusts of 185 and 220 kilometers per hour respectively, moving westward at 22 kilometers with a minimum pressure of 964 hectopascals.
Due to its wide circulation, it will cause intense rainfall ranging from 75 to 100 millimeters in Jalisco, Guanajuato, Colima, Michoacán and Guerrero. Likewise, low pressure channels will increase the possibility of heavy rains in the center and south of the country.
However, according to forecasts, meteorological authorities expect the tropical cyclone to decrease its category to 2 by Wednesday, weakening to a tropical storm in the future.
At the same time, the National Meteorological Service and the National Water Commission call on citizens to obey the indications of state, municipal and Civil Protection authorities.
Precipitation associated with this system may cause the water level of rivers and streams to rise, which could cause flooding in the territories of Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco and Michoacán.
