Bogota, July 24 (PL-RHC) – In news related to that event, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said the government owes an explanation to the victims of the 50 years of armed conflict and violence.

Speaking at the Forum on Culture and Peace, held in the Chamber of Commerce in Bogota, Santos said the victims will benefit more with the knowledge of the truth.

It's the time of the victims, without distinction of any kind: the victims of the paramilitaries, the victims of the guerrillas and the agents of the State, he said.

Santos considered it essential that all sectors recognize their own responsibility, and he added that this concerns all the parties, business and civil society in general.

He stressed that one of the issues that must be explained to the Colombians concerns transitional justice. He said: “If we want peace, we must reconcile some goals that at first sight seem incompatible,” adding that peace depends on our willingness to give up something.
