Vietnamese partisan leader and US president talk

Havana, March 30 (RHC) Vietnam's top party leader Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with US President Joe Biden on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral Comprehensive Partnership, the VNA news agency reported today.

In the telephone conversation held last night, the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (PCV) appreciated that the results in the relationship between the two countries are in line with the aspirations of both peoples.

These ties, he pointed out, are promoted on the basis of respect for the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions of each country, mutual understanding, equitable cooperation, and in the spirit of putting aside the past, overcoming differences, promoting the similarities and look to the future.

Nguyen stressed that Vietnam persists in the foreign policy of independence, self-determination, multilateralization and diversification of relations, international integration, being a reliable friend and partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community.

In order to develop the ties between the two countries in the future in a deep, sustainable and substantive manner, he called for promoting the exchange of delegations at all levels, as well as fostering ties between governments, parliaments, parties and peoples.

He also suggested that the two sides continue to expand economic, scientific and technological cooperation, implement defense and security cooperation agreements, and attach importance to promoting harmonious and sustainable trade.

The top leader of the PCV also urged cooperation to ensure supply chains and infrastructure and extend it to new fields such as logistics, digital economy, green transformation and health.

Both parties, Nguyen estimated, should promote collaboration in recovering from the aftermath of war, peacekeeping, information sharing and crime prevention.

Vietnam stands ready to cooperate with international partners in strengthening friendship and dialogue, consolidating peace, promoting development, upholding international law and responding to common challenges, he stressed.

Biden, for his part, confirmed his support for an "independent, self-determined and prosperous" Vietnam and cataloged the Indochina nation as an important partner. The US president also reaffirmed consideration for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions of Vietnam, and stated that respect is an important basis of the relationship between the two countries.

He identified trade cooperation, clean energy and energy transformation as potential areas for development and anticipated that Presidential Climate Envoy John Kerry will continue to specifically discuss with Vietnam on this issue.

According to the VNA, Nguyen and Biden reiterated their invitations for high-level visits, which both leaders welcomed and assigned relevant agencies to arrange the visits at an appropriate time. (Source: Prensa Latina)
