Public calamity declared in Colombia due to probable eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano
Havana, April 3 (RHC) The preventive evacuation of people living in the Colombian municipality of Villamaría, in Caldas, began. Villamaría is located in the vicinity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, which has had an increase in seismic activity in recent days, forcing to declare an orange alert and public calamity in that area.
In the next few days, 40 families from Villamaría will be evacuated in a preventive manner, explained the governor of Caldas, Luis Carlos Velásquez. In the area there are 300 houses that are located in the high, medium and low jurisdiction of the volcano.
Velásquez said that 23 educational institutions, located within 10 kilometers (km) of the volcano, were asked to hold classes virtually after the Easter holiday. (Source: RT)
