Camacho is accused of the crimes of breach of duty, embezzlement, improper use of influence, uneconomic conduct and contracts harmful to the State
Havana, April 11 (RHC) - Luis Fernando Camacho, governor of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, will assume his defense in a hearing on precautionary measures on April 18 for the irregular purchase of a fire truck.
"The judge appointed a hearing for the application of precautionary measures for April 18 (...) we are going to adhere to the request of the Public Ministry and we are going to request preventive detention for a period of 180 days," said the lawyer Marcelo Aliaga.
The jurist on behalf of the deputy, Hernán Hinojosa, maintained that, according to the investigations, the purchase of the motorized vehicle was irregular and only when the criminal complaint was made did the accused party activate the efforts for the car to reach national territory.
He also explained that, despite the fact that the Government now intends to dissolve the contract with the company, the "conduct they had must be sanctioned."
A complaint from the deputy, Rolando Cuellar, activated this file, in which it was revealed that the Government contracted the purchase of the vehicle on January 28, 2022, and that the delivery was scheduled for June 27 but it was not until August that the operation was completed.
For these facts, Camacho is accused of the crimes of breach of duty, embezzlement, improper use of influence, uneconomic conduct and contracts harmful to the State. According to the prosecution, an irregular contracting was allegedly, because the motorized vehicle was purchased by direct invitation and not by public bidding.
The prosecutor's office demanded that, while the investigations progress, Camacho remains in preventive detention for six months in the maximum security prison of Chonchocoro, where he is currently in precautionary confinement for 120 days as one of the main defendants in the Coup d'état I case.
This file investigates the plot that forced the resignation of former constitutional president Evo Morales in November 2019, imposed a de facto government headed by Jeanine Áñez (2019-2020) and led to the massacres of El Pedregal, Sacaba and Senkata with balance of 38 deaths, hundreds of wounded and thousands of illegally arrested and tortured.
