President committed to Honduras’s principles and values

Havana, April 22 (RHC) - Honduran president Xiomara Castro ratified in Tegucigalpa her commitment and that of her Government with the principles and values that sustain Honduras.

During a speech the day before on the occasion of the 92nd anniversary of the creation of the Honduran Air Force, the head of state urged conservative groups to rectify the attitude assumed towards the Executive.

"For a year and three months of my government they have opposed all means, changes and transformations", Honduras’s first female president said in her speech.

Castro added that steps must be taken to structural reforms to get out of the social arrears suffered by the vast majorities. According to the ruler, injustice, deep inequality and the "dependency to which we are subjected, forces us by mandates from the people to reverse them".

Likewise, she referred to the law to guarantee the national electric power service as a public good of national security and a human right of an economic and social nature.

She alluded to the different measures taken during more than a year in office and mentioned the subsidy for electricity and fuel, which benefits the poorest people. In this sense, she pointed out that the constitutional principle of a single fund for the ordering of public finances was returned "without failing to comply with the commitments of the heavy and gross public debt that multiplied five times after the coup d'état."

The president also referred to the annulment of the hourly employment law, which makes the working conditions of thousands of Honduran workers precarious.

In addition, she mentioned the proposal for tax justice regulations to put an end to corruption and abuses in the country, which will be sent to the National Congress when approved by the Council of Ministers.

On the other hand, Castro highlighted the role of the air force in defending the sovereignty of the national territory and assured that they comply with honor. (Source: Prensa Latina)
