Jorge Glas has declined this Saturday the presidential candidacy of Ecuador and has proposed the formula Luisa González-Andrés Arauz.

Quito, June 10 (RHC)-- Jorge Glas has declined this Saturday the presidential candidacy of Ecuador and has proposed the formula Luisa González-Andrés Arauz.

Previously, the president of the Citizen Revolution Movement, Marcela Aguiñaga, announced that Glas will be the presidential candidate. "I am still under attack, more criminal proceedings", asserted Glas, adding that it is known that "they are conspiring so that the binomial of the Citizen Revolution has stumbles in its registration".

I told them that I would announce it to them . It is now official.  The binomial of RC5 is:Luisa González, president.Andrés Aráuz, vice president.Hasta la victoria siempre!

Glas was twice vice president of the nation for his party, the first time accompanying Rafael Correa from 2013 to 2017 and the second time to Lenín Moreno from 2017 to 2021. However, in 2017, after taking office, Glas denounced corruption in the new Government.

The electoral process generates high expectations, in the midst of the strong political crisis that the nation is going through and that derived in the early departure of the president and the dissolution of the assembly. Ecuador will go to the polls on August 20 after President Guillermo Lasso dissolved the National Assembly in May in the midst of an impeachment trial against him, and called for early elections shortening his own mandate as provided by the Constitution.
