About six thousand 443 persons disappeared between June 2019 and June 2022.

Havana, Jun 22 (RHC) People missing in El Salvador are still a problem, as revealed today by an investigation of the Foundation of Studies for the Application of Law (Fespad).

Despite the government initiative to improve the security of citizens, the research “Situation of the disappearance of people in El Salvador and the response of the State in the 2019-2022 governmental administration”, showed that about six thousand 443 persons disappeared between June 2019 and June 2022.

Many of them are among the more than 70 thousand arrested by the government as part of the fight against maras or gangs.

Among other reasons, there is great uncertainty within the families of the victims, due to the lack of information from the authorities of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.

” From 2019 to 2022 there are six thousand 443 missing persons, of whom the active ones could reach two thousand 397, it is quite a high number, and what the government of El Salvador must do is to provide an answer to the victims, Henry Fino, director of Fespad, said

The figures reflect that El Salvador is an “enormous clandestine cemetery,” according to Fespad, there are at least 277 clandestine cemeteries in the country located in ten municipalities alone, Benjamin Cuellar, a consultant for the investigation, said.

The investigation found that during the application of the exception regime, the disappearances of people continued, since they counted some 672 denunciations only from January to June 2022. (Source: Prensa Latina)
