Rio de Janeiro, October 8 (NNN-RHC) -- Environmentalist Marina Silva, who lost her bid in Sunday's presidential elections on Sunday, could well become the power broker in the run-off between incumbent Dilma Rousseff and business favorite Aecio Neves.

Silva will reveal her strategy today for the October 26th run-off after her Socialist party meets to decide their plan of action.

In Sunday's election, she had finished third behind current President Dilma Rousseff and Social Democracy Party chief Aecio Neves. Observers say if Silva backs Neves, Rousseff will face a tough challenge since she fell short of 50 percent support on Sunday.

However, Silva will also face challenges since some of her party colleagues are not keen on aligning themselves with Neves. They see that as a capitulation of party principles.

Silva could persuade her party to support her view if Neves agrees to endorse some of her own election promises.

Neves released a statement echoing Silva's desire for a "new politics."
