Baghdad, October 15 (RHC)-- At least 21 people have been killed in a bomb attack in a Shia neighborhood of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. According to reports on Tuesday, the deadly bomb attack took place at a checkpoint in Baghdad's Shiite neighborhood of Kadhimiyah.

At least 51 other people suffered injuries in the attack, a Health Ministry official and a hospital source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, adding that there were several Iraqi police officers among the dead.

Iraqi Shia cities have been witnessing deadly bombings over the past few days. On Monday, police sources said at least 25 people, including police officers, were killed in three bomb attacks targeting a security checkpoint north of Baghdad. More than 40 others were also injured in explosions in the districts of Kadhimiyah and Sadr City on the same day.

The overall security situation in Iraq has worsened over the past months after the Takfiri terrorists of the ISIL, of whom many are foreign terrorists, took control of parts of Iraq's northern and western regions. They have been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas, including mass executions and beheadings of people.
