Damascus, December 8 (RHC)-- Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) tanks have crossed the border with Syria from the Golan Heights, local media reports.

Israeli forces have entered the Quneitra area and fired artillery shells to “prevent hostile elements from approaching the border,” N12 reports. The IDF has not yet made any official comments.   Israeli Army Radio also reported that the IDF is about to announce stricter restrictions for some towns near the Syrian border.

This means that classes will be cancelled in schools in four Druze villages in the area.

In addition, lands adjacent to the border will be declared a closed military zone, so civilians will not be able to access them, including farmers trying to tend their fields.

According to the report, roadblocks are also being set up around the Golan Heights and traffic is being limited as necessary.

Previously, Syrian jihadist insurgents declared on social media that they had taken Damascus and seized power in the country. Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Bashar al-Assad remain unknown.
