Quito, January 16 (RHC-PL) -- Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas and other authorities inaugurated the Innopolis Science and Technology Fair 'Knowledge is Freedom' on Thursday, in the year proclaimed as year of knowledge and innovation. The event is being held at the Yachay City of Knowledge Park, 150 km north of Quito, to promote an ecosystem of enterprising and innovation aimed at revitalizing national development.
At the inauguration, Glas explained that the initiative is part of a deep transformation in the country in order to break the model that makes Ecuador dependent on its exports of tuna fish, banana, oil and cocoa, among other basic products.
He said that without failing to export the abovementioned items, Ecuador wants to build a society focused on knowledge, human talent and innovation, which are infinite resources that will guarantee better conditions for all Ecuadorians.
On occasion of the eighth anniversary of the Citizens' Revolution, Glas said change is possible thanks to the political decision of the people to subvert the power relationships.
The fair, running through Sunday, Jan.18, will include forums, specialized panels, cultural events and opportunities to establish networks among business people, investors and experts.
According to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Senescyt), international experts attending the fair are creative leader of Google Jeremy Abbett; Greg Horowitt, who created the Rainforest Canvas methodology for innovation ecosystems, and the leader of Gulliver Group (Chile), Leonardo Maldonado.
