Mexico City, February 10 (RHC-EFE) – The preliminary identification of 60 embalmed bodies discovered at a shuttered crematorium in the resort city of Acapulco will require at least three weeks, the attorney general of the southern Mexican state of Guerrero said Monday.

Authorities will need “around 20 days at a minimum,” Miguel Angel Godinez told MVS radio. He said investigators have found no evidence conflicting with their hypothesis that the bodies were simply left behind by the crematorium’s operators when they abandoned the failed firm.

The company apparently collected fees from the families of the 60 deceased, who included men, women and children.

Guerrero authorities have asked the Mexican federal government and Interpol for assistance in tracking down crematorium owner Guillermo Estua Zardain. The federal Attorney General's Office has sent 15 forensics specialists to Guerrero to assist in the identification of the bodies, Godinez said.

Authorities discovered the bodies last Thursday after nearby residents complained about a foul odor coming from the crematorium.

Acapulco is some 200 kilometers (120 miles) from Iguala, Guerrero, where 43 students from Ayotzinapa teachers college were kidnapped on the night of September 26th after coming under attack by police.
