Lima, February 16 (RHC-Andina) -- Peru and Germany have signed an agreement to strengthen the political–diplomatic dialogue between both countries. The ceremony took place during the official visit of German Chancellor, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to Lima February 13th and 14th. It sought to strengthen the bilateral relations and also paves the way for the upcoming official visit of German President, Joachim Gauck next March.
Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister, Gonzalo Gutierrez and his German counterpart signed the agreement also for the creation of a political consultations mechanism.
At the meeting, both Ministers addressed topics regarding the bilateral agenda, particularly linked to the Multipart Trade Agreement between Peru and the European Union.
Among other topics, important issues discussed were: technical and financial cooperation, environment protection and sustainable development, commerce relations and the possibilities for German infrastructure investments in Peru.
Steinmeier highlighted the successful organization and participation of the Peruvian Presidency in the Conference of the Parties (COP20), which took place in Lima last December.
The delegation, which arrived to the Torre Tagle Palace was composed of: Congressmen and women, entrepreneurs, members of the Germany culture.
Current bilateral trade between both nations has surpassed, since 2010, US$2 billion despite world economic crisis. Germany was the second market for Peruvian exports to the European Union.
