Bogotá, November 27 (teleSUR-RHC)-- The Colombian Attorney General opened in October an investigation against General Marco Lino Tamayo for allegedly obstructing the “false positives,” case, informed local media Thursday. The experts could not properly identify the authors of hundreds of extrajudicial executions allegedly because of Tamayo's interference, who leads the judicial branch of the army, according to Noticias RCN. The general gave verbal orders to his subordinates in order to obstruct the inquiry regarding the “false positives,” added the channel. Over 3,000 people were killed this way between 2002 to 2008 in an attempt to portray the war against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia rebel group, known as FARC, as more successful. According to the Attorney General's Office, over 10,000 people are being investigated over the scandal. More than 800 people have been sentenced —mainly members of the army and the marines. “False positives” were extrajudicial killings carried by the Colombian army, in which unarmed civilians assassinated by soldiers were presented as downed guerrilla fighters, in an attempt to portray the war against the FARC rebel group as successful.
