Port-Au-Prince, Mar 11 (RHC) Haiti has requested assistance from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), due to the food shortage threatening today more than 3.5 million people, with 1.5 million rated as living in critical situation.
Ambassador to Mexico Gui Lamot made the request at a regional meeting of the FAO, where he voiced concern with Haiti's national statistics on farming, adding that 40% the homes lack enough food, and 25% the children under six years suffer chronic malnutrition.
The Haitian diplomat also called on the FAO for more generous aid programs to reactivate agriculture since the national budget to attract investments in food production is not enough.
