Moscow, July 14 (RHC)-- Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced his preparedness for "constructive dialogue" with Britain's newly appointed Prime Minister Theresa May.  Putin confirmed his willingness "to collaborate with the British prime minister about current issues concerning bilateral relations and the international agenda."

In a statement issued by the Kremlin, Putin stressed the conviction that "the preservation of the significant potential of Russian-British cooperation in various fields that has been accumulated for a long time is in the fundamental interests of the two countries."

Earlier, May was confirmed as the new British prime minister by Queen Elizabeth ll, replacing David Cameron as the head of the UK government.  Cameron announced his resignation on June 24, a day after people in the UK voted to leave the EU.  Cameron was among the senior politicians who supported the Remain campaign.

In his farewell statement outside Downing Street earlier on Wednesday morning, Cameron said May would provide "strong and stable leadership."
