Havana, August 2 (RHC)-- Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister Abelardo Moreno said in Havana that bilateral dialogue with the United States on compensation claims is in the first stages, adding that it's a matter of “highly political, technical and judicial complexity.”

At a press conference Monday in Havana, Moreno recalled that since the very first nationalization laws were established, after the 1959 Revolution, Cuba has always been willing to compensate foreign individuals and companies affected.

He noted that agreements regarding nationalized property were reached with Canada and five European countries some time ago, and that plans with the United States for compensation included a defined time frame, but the actions of the U.S. government prevented their realization.

Deputy Foreign Minister Moreno led the Cuban delegation to the second U.S.-Cuba meeting on compensation claims held last week in Washington, as part of the ongoing process towards the normalization of bilateral relations.
