Washington, December 21 (RHC)-- Cuba and the United States have signed a memorandum of understanding on the preservation of wild fauna and protected land areas in both nations.
Signed on Tuesday in Washington, the document recognizes the need to set up effective bilateral mechanisms that provide for joint scientific research and management of natural resources in both the U.S. and Cuba.
The two sides identified five protected areas, where joint conservation efforts can begin in the near future. These include the Guanahacabibes Peninsula, located in Cuba's westernmost province of Pinar del Río, and the Florida Keys, in that southern U.S. state.
