Havana, Cuba, June 16 (RHC)-- The President of Mozambique Filipe Jacinto Nyusi arrived in Havana on Thursday for an official visit, during which he is to hold talks with his Cuban counterpart, President Raul Castro.

The Mozambique head of state was welcomed in Havana by Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra.

As part of his visit, the African leader and delegation will carry out a broad agenda to reinforce the historic friendship and cooperation ties between both peoples and governments, dating back over 40 years.

Other activities on the visit agenda include tours of places of interest, among them the Havana-based Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and the African Leaders Park to pay homage to African heroes and the Cuban internationalist fighters who fought and died alongside their African comrades, while fighting South Africa's apartheid regime.

Diplomatic sources report that among the main interest in the bilateral agenda is reinforcing cooperation in key sectors like health, agriculture, technical-professional training, culture and tourism.

Jacinto Nyusi has been the President of Mozambique since January 15th, 2015 and prior to being named Head of State he was Minister of Defense for six years.  He is also member of the Mozambique Liberation Front, FRELIMO Party.

A cooperation agreement was signed last May between the Cuban Education Ministry and the Mozambique Education and Human Development Ministry to strengthen training personnel in the Mozambique education system.
