Brussels, February 10 (RHC)-- The European Union's Council of Foreign Ministers gave the green light on Monday to negotiate an accord for political dialog with Cuba.
The European ministers adopted the decision for talks with Havana as a non-debate point on their meeting's agenda, according to diplomatic sources.

Negotiations would open while the European Union maintains a so-called 'common position' on Cuba, an unfair and unilateral policy imposed by that bloc on the island in 1996 at the proposal of the Spanish government, then led by Jose Maria Aznar.

Negotiations of the accord is the result of an initiative by European Union foreign ministers to explore the possibilities of new relations between the bloc and Havana.
