Latin America: World Example in Attention to Children

Quito, February 12 (RHC)-- Cuban Deputy Education minister Irene Rivero said in Quito, Ecuador, that Latin America may give the world a lesson with regards to the attention of small children, which is the foundations for the education system.

“We are not rich countries, but we can do it with high quality and make it an example of our political will,” said the Cuban official as quoted by Prensa Latina news agency.

Rivero, who is attending the first international seminar on early childhood, underway in Quito, said that in order to achieve the objective, Latin American countries must take advantage of the cooperation relations and the integration-oriented mechanisms existing in the region.

The deputy minister shared the Cuban experience of giving attention of children from birth to five years of age and noted that in Cuba pre-school education is compulsory and the state has the obligation to offer the highest quality service in this sector.
