Havana, Feb 13 (RHC)-- Cuba rejected Tuesday recent remarks by Luis Almagro, Secretary General of Organization of American States (OAS), about the country's democratic electoral system.
In statements to the press in Havana, Cuban Deputy Foreign Ministry Rogelio Sierra, blasted Almagro's remarks, saying the OAS head lacks credibility, as well as any moral or ethical authority to judge the actions of the Cuban government and people.
The Cuban deputy foreign minister said: “Almagro makes a huge mistake, when he tries to either ignore or discredit the Cuban people's determination to be sovereign and independent.”
He added: “The OAS secretary general disregarded the Cuban electoral system that was freely chosen by the Cuban people. Likewise, he tried hard to discredit the ongoing democratic process leading to the upcoming elections on March 11th.”
The Cuban senior diplomat further noted that Almagro, speaking from Miami, tried to delegitimize Cuba's sovereignty and independence and the inalienable right of the Cuban people to decide freely on their own political system.
“The OAS head showed his full support for the anti-Cuba campaigns and actions by counterrevolutionaries in Cuba and their allies in the United States,” said deputy minister Sierra. He noted that Almagro was surrounded by a notorious group of people, who support the blockade policy and strongly advocate all sorts of aggressive actions against the Caribbean country, including terrorism.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sierra reiterated that the Cuban people will continue walking their own path, with full sovereignty and independence.
