Ottawa, June 1 (RHC)-- The Ambassador of Cuba, Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, was received Thursday by the Honorable Geoff Regan, president of the House of Commons, at the headquarters of the Canadian Parliament.

During the fruitful and cordial meeting, they discussed the historic relations of friendship between both peoples, and it was recalled that the Canadian province of Nova Scotia was a pioneer in the exchanges with Cuba. They also talked about the potential to deepen and expand the close ties existing in the economic-commercial, investment, cooperation and tourism spheres.

The Cuban diplomat stressed that according to the priorities for Cuba's development and mutually beneficial bilateral ties, Canada could have a greater presence on the island, which today is its main trading partner in the Caribbean area.  The relationship and the stability it has built over the years are solid bases to lead to higher stages of exchange and cooperation.

On the Canadian side were Brian Underhill, Chief of the Office of the President of the House of Commons, and Vanessa Moss-Norbury, official in charge of parliamentary exchanges. On the Cuban side, Giuvel Orozco Ortega, Counselor and Second Chief of the Embassy of Cuba in Canada was also present.
