United Nations, July 17 (RHC) -- Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, who heads the Cuban delegation to the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, was received by Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the Organization.
During the meeting, both parties ratified the will to work together towards the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals in Third World countries, through South-South cooperation, which Cuba promotes through its presidency of ECLAC (United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean).
The Cuban minister pointed out Cuba's commitment to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, stressing the good state of relations between the island and the United Nations, conveying its support to the system. He further noted that UN agencies have supported the implementation of Cuba's national priorities on the ground in education, health, renewable energy and climate change, among other sectors.
The deputy secretary-general highlighted the role of the Caribbean nation as pro tempore president of ECLAC, which in her view will be particularly important in the framework of the regional reform. She recognized Cuba's achievements in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and the contribution that the island could make to other third world countries in this area.
The Cuban minister, who was accompanied by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez, as well as other officials of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment and the Cuban diplomatic Mission, reiterated Cuba's official invitation for the deputy secretary-general to visit the island.
