10th Congress of Federation of Cuban Women gets underway

Cuban Havana, March 6 (RHC) The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) is starting its 10th Congress this Wednesday.

The event, which is running through Friday at Havana´s Convention Center, will analyze the role of Cuban women in the current economic reform, progress achieved in gender equality, and women´s role in society and the family.

In the opening day, delegates will meet in four committees. Plenary sessions will take place on Thursday and Friday.

The youth as a guarantee of the continuity of the FMC will also be a point to debate in the meeting, which will be attended by some 360 ​​delegates and 40 guests. 
Cuba has more than four million 300 thousand members of the FMC. Women represent 53.2 percent of the positions held in the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), and they constitute 48.4 percent of the members of the Council of State.

They also account for 60.5 percent of graduates of Higher Education and 67.2 percent of technicians and professionals nationwide.  They make up 49 percent of the labor force in the civil state sector.

All these figures are a testimony of  the progress made by Cuban women since the triumph of the Revolution on January 1st, 1959.
