Santa Clara, May 16 (RHC)—Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel is heading a governmental visit to the central province of Villa Clara, accompanied by Vice President Salvador Mesa, and several members of the Council of Ministers.

On Wednesday, the Cuban leader toured important industries of the territory and exchanged views with locals, and his first stop was a Chlorine-soda Plant whose construction began 4 years ago in Sagua La Grande Municipality.

At the construction site, the president asked about the delay that has plagued that project.  He was told that the plant will become operational in mid-July.

He also took time to visit facilities for the reconstruction of railway tanks for cement transportation.
The Cuban president also visited the Marta Abreu University in Santa Clara, where he exchanged with professors and students about the need of linking scientific research to encourage exports and replace imports.

The overall purpose of these governmental visits is to assess the progress of projects being undertaken in the territory and prospects for developments in the sectors of science, housing construction, industry and food production, among others.

The visit of the Cuban leader to Villa Clara Province is scheduled to conclude Thursday.
