Havana, April 2 (RHC) Cuban authorities are deploying a multi-sector strategy to counter the contraband of birds and other natural species.

The chief of the forest rangers group, Colonel Manuel Lamas said that his entity along the Customs services and the border patrol are on the alert against this kind of crimes as they try to thwart any smuggling of natural species out of the island.

The forest rangers’ organization told reporters that smugglers use sophisticated techniques to avoid regulations, such as to have birds doze off in deodorant tubes and plastic bottles.

Cuba has signed numerous agreements related to this issue, said Lamas, including the International Convention on Threatened flora and wildlife species. At the same time, the Defense Committee of the Cuban Parliament follows the issue to enhance preventive actions.
