Cuba reports 48 new positive cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours

Havana, April 15 (RHC)-- The National Director of Epidemiology of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Francisco Duran, reported on Wednesday that there are 48 new cases of COVID-19, for an total of 814 positive cases across the island.  

During his daily press briefing held Wednesday morning, Duran said that unfortunately over the past 24 hours -- up to 12 midnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning -- three more patients died from the coronavirus.  There are now a total of 24 who have died from COVID-19 in Cuba.

To date, 151 patients have recovered -- with an additional 19 released from hospitals on Tuesday.

A total of 2,466 patients were admitted to hospitals for clinical epidemiological surveillance.  Another 6,572 people are being monitored in their homes by primary health care, with doctors and nurses going from house-to-house checking on their status.

Of the 48 new confirmed cases, 47 are Cuban and one is a foreign citizen from the United States.  Of these, 38 were contacts of confirmed or suspected cases and the source of infection is being investigated for the other ten.
