Havana, May 3, (RHC), -- The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Cuban President Raul Castro, sent floral tributes to eminent musician Juan Formell, who passed away on May 1.
Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, member of the Politburo and First Vice-president of the councils of State and Ministers, went to pay tribute to the renowned artist and described Formell as a genuine expression of Cuban idiosyncrasy.
Fernando Gonzalez, one of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters, who suffered a long and unfair sentence in the United States, asserted that listening to the music of Formell and his band Los Van Van, when he was allowed to do so in prison, was like enjoying a small piece of his beloved Cuba.
Rene Gonzalez, another antiterrorist fighter who is also on the island after serving his sentence, highlighted that Formell represents Cuban culture, its flavor, joy, humor and spirit, which he offered the Cuban people for over 40 years.
Numerous personalities of the various spheres of Cuban society attended the funeral service, which ended on Friday evening, to pay tribute to the talented and admired artist.
