Havana, June 30 (RHC)-- The Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association referred in a statement to its great concern about the U.S. government's intention to include Cuba on a U.S. State Department list that designates certain countries as sponsors of terrorism.

In the text, the solidarity group warns that it is evident that the inclusion of Cuba on the State Department's list would provide the United States with another false pretext to justify its hostile policy and the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Cuban nation for almost 60 years.

The letter explains that it is particularly shameful that the government of the United States is intensifying its hostile position towards Cuba in an international situation, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which calls for solidarity and cooperation among the international community.

The document published on the CubaMinrex website highlights that, in this regard, as is the Cuban tradition, the Caribbean island has offered its solidarity to all nations of the world and, so far, more than two thousand Cuban health professionals have helped 24 nations in Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and Africa in the fight against COVID-19.

They also stressed that, for Namibia, the cooperation of Cuban internationalist troops in Angola with MPLA and SWAPO fighters -- in the 1970s and 80s -- led to the definitive defeat of the racist apartheid regime in South Africa and the achievement of its independence.

The Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association also recalled that, since Independence and up to the present, Cuba has selflessly provided medical personnel and other professionals to help in the development of the country.
