Pedro Luis Pedroso

Havana, February 3 (RHC)-- Pedro Luis Pedroso, Cuba's permanent representative to the United Nations, acknowledged the multilateral body's efforts and results in the socioeconomic response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a meeting corresponding to the First Session of the Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Population Fund, and United Nations Office for Project Services, respectively, the Cuban representative noted the contribution in epidemiological control and support in the search for recovery.

In addition, the diplomat considered that the new UNDP Strategic Plan 2022-2025 should enhance support for South-South and Triangular Cooperation, through the exchange of experiences, best practices, technical assistance, and capacity building, among other modalities, according to a note on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.

He added that these exchanges could make a valuable contribution in the search for solutions to common challenges in areas such as education, public health, and disaster risk reduction.

Pedroso called for strengthening attention to groups of countries in special situations, including Small Island Developing States and countries facing specific needs and challenges, including "middle-income" countries.
