Havana, February 4 (RHC) Cuba was elected Thursday vice president of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, in a special meeting chaired by the Secretary-General of that world organization, Antonio Guterres.

The election took place by acclamation and went to the Cuban Permanent Representative to the UN, Pedro Luis Pedroso. In his remarks to appreciate the election, the Ambassador denounced the difficult conditions the Palestinians are going through in defense of their rights and the increase of Israel's actions against their legitimate aspirations.

According to the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, Pedroso said that Cuba received this appointment as a sign of confidence and recognition of its permanent position in defense of the Palestinian people.
The permanent representative of Senegal to the United Nations was elected as chairman of the Committee, and the ambassadors of Afghanistan, Nicaragua, Namibia, and Indonesia,  as vice-chairs.

Good news for Cuba. It is good to see that Palestinians have not been forgotten, and it seems natural that Cuba would be a part of that effort.
