Beijing, March 6 (RHC)-- Cuba's ambassador to China, Carlos Miguel Pereira, said Saturday that the renewal of the memorandum on bilateral cooperation in health reflects the political will of both nations to deepen their relations in this area.

Pereira told Prensa Latina that the step has a greater scope, as it will allow expanding collaboration to areas such as medical biotechnology, prevention and control of chronic diseases, traditional medicine, and the implementation of comprehensive health services, among others.

According to the diplomat, exchanges in the health field have been going on for more than 15 years and have yielded positive results for both countries.

Pereira and the Minister of the National Health Commission of China, Ma Xiaowei,  renewed on Friday the memorandum, initially signed in 2014 during the visit to Havana of President Xi Jinping.

This step will give continuity to cooperation in health for another five years. It is effective immediately and also provides for the presence of Cuban professionals in Chinese health institutions, academic training, health tourism, development of technology parks, and investments.
