U.S. Geologists Visit Eastern Santiago de Cuba

Santiago de Cuba, June 12 (RHC) –- Experts from the U.S. Geology Service are visiting the eastern Cuban city of Santiago de Cuba, where they met with specialists from the local university and the National Seismological Research Center.

During the meeting, the US specialists explained their role in the reduction of dangers and cooperation with other U.S. federal agencies to provide necessary information in order to protect people and property. They specifically referred to different actions and to the lessons learned during the 2010 quake in Haiti and others occurred in Japan.

The U.S. Geological Service counts on over 150 stations around the world, nine of which are in the Caribbean area. The service collaborates with universities and labs in different nations and offers its experiences free of charge on the Internet.

The U.S. experts are scheduled to visit different areas in eastern Santiago de Cuba of interest for their work.
