Mexico City, July 26 (RHC) -- Mexican President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador insisted on Monday that the time has come to decide on the U.S. economic blockade against Cuba.

In his daily morning press conference, the President reiterated that a new relationship between all the countries of the Americas is necessary and that the U.S. authorities must be convinced and persuaded of this.

He stressed that the policy defined 200 years ago by the United States no longer works, nor is it good for anyone. Aggressions, invasions, annexations, or blockades no longer make sense. Instead, there must be cooperation for the development of all people.

Commenting on the difficult health situation in Cuba,  the Mexican head of State said that  it is not conceivable that amid a pandemic, an independent country is punished with a blockade.'

Lopez Obrador confirmed that two ships of the Mexican Navy will leave with oxygen, food, and medicine bound for Cuba.

"We decided this out of solidarity in the face of the blockade which is trying to politically subjugate the people and the government of Cuba.

"It is not enough to vote every year in the U.N. against the blockade, he stressed.

Lopez Obrador made a  call on all the world countries to turn this manifestation expressed in the U.N. voting against the blockade into action and urged them to help the people of Cuba.
