Havana, August 12 (RHC)--Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel affirmed that the country is making untold efforts to maintain the minimum coverage of resources needed to confront the current pandemic peak effectively, but he insisted that more cooperation is required from everyone.

In a message to the population during Wednesday's meeting of the Temporary Working Group for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19, Diaz-Canel reflected on the enormous effort being made that has imposed so many demands on the health system.

He noted that the current situation had exceeded the capacities of the island's health system, straining the work of all its personnel and of all the agencies that are supporting the fight against the disease, and also because there is a greater consumption of medicines and oxygen.

Faced with this situation, he added, we need "more demands on our health institutions, but we also need more understanding from the public, because we all have to contribute more rigor in our work."

The head of State explained that "there are indications that we may be able to improve the situation gradually, but it is necessary, in addition to the results of vaccination, to complement that effort,  sustain it, and preserve it with a responsible behavior on the part of all of us."

In his message to the population, Díaz-Canel pointed out: "Without demanding inconveniences, without breaking family life, or wanting to ask for extraordinary efforts, aware of the limitations already imposed by the pandemic, I ask for your understanding and commitment, so that in the shortest possible time we overcome this pandemic peak."
