Cuban Mission Helps Restore Sight to Thousands of Paraguayans

Asunción, July 10 (PL-RHC) -- The Cuban Miracle Mission Brigade working in Paraguay has restored or improved eyesight to 13,641 patients in the last 18 months.

The medical brigade is working in Maria Auxiliadora district, in the department of Itapua, more than 400 kilometers from Asunción.

There, a small group of surgeons, ophthalmologists, a specialist in Internal Medicine, an optometrist and professionals in pharmacy and laboratory, along with some administrative workers, are carrying out hard work, gaining the people's confidence and friendship.

Statistics showed that 3,964 patients have undergone surgeries over the past year and a half, 5,858 people received optometrist care and another 3,819 services in internal medicine.

The most common afflictions treated were cataract and pterygium, some of them through operations, others through specific treatments, and a small group was assisted for other diseases.

The medical brigade, which is tirelessly working in Paraguay, recently received the visit of Vice President Juan Afara, accompanied by high officials of the health sector.

Complying with their duty, the members of the Cuban brigade are celebrating today the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Miracle Mission by the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro.
