Havana, January 20 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez evaluated the implementation of the Government Management System based on Science and Innovation in the Ministry of Finance and Prices in a meeting held on Wednesday with directors of that ministry and members of scientific institutions and universities.

Due to its transversality in all areas of the economy and society, the generation of science and innovation in the Finance and Prices sectors is vital and urgent, said the President.

The Minister of Finance and Prices, Meisi Bolaños Weiss, presented a summary of the organization's priorities in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) and the structure that has been established for its development.

She defined the strengths available to promote the activity, including developing its scientific potential and the collaboration of experts from different areas.

The President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, paid attention to the functioning and composition of the technical advisory councils. He insisted that they should be integrated, in addition to experts in the field of Finance and Prices, by jurists and scientists of Marxism and Political Economy to give more robustness to everything that is done.

Regarding the management of local budgets, he pronounced himself in favor of innovative processes where the money of the municipalities are submitted to more participative and democratic processes.

The municipal budgets, he exemplified, are not in function of solving the main problems of the localities, and that has to be changed, but it can be achieved if we put science into it.

On the other hand, the Cuban leader stressed the need to take advantage of the lessons that the confrontation with the COVID-19 pandemic has left, such as teleworking, telecommuting and digital procedures, which despite their benefits, are decreasing.

"We have not just changed our mentality", insisted the First Secretary, who also criticized the little use made of the portals and websites of public institutions, which are "the first place where the information of the organizations should be available to the population," he criticized.
