Foreign Minister receives Secretary-General of the Association of Caribbean States

Havana, February 21 (RHC)—Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla,  received in Havana on Monday Rodolfo Sabonge, Secretary-General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).

During the meeting, both parties reviewed the current state of the Association. They exchanged on the challenges facing the Caribbean region, which is suffering the consequences of climate change in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cuban Foreign Minister stressed the Island's commitment to participate in all the activities programmed by the regional integration body while acknowledging that much remains to be done for the sake of dialogue and cooperation.

Rodríguez Parrilla highlighted the importance of the ACS as a mechanism for coordination in the area and thanked the organization's historical support in the rejection of the U.S. blockade imposed on the Island.

For his part, Sabonge mentioned Cuba's permanent commitment to the organization and the support provided in the fight against COVID-19 and the post-pandemic recovery.

The official also highlighted the importance of the bilateral cooperation projects related to transportation and the environment that are currently underway.

Both parties agreed on the need to continue promoting Caribbean unity to face common challenges in trade, supply chains, transportation, sustainable tourism, and others.

The ACS Secretary-General will conclude his first official visit to the country tomorrow, after carrying out an extensive program of activities and exchanges since last Tuesday.
