Havana, Sep 24 (RHC) Tropical Storm Ian, considered a potential danger for Cuba, advanced Saturday through the Caribbean Sea with the possibility of reaching hurricane category on Sunday.

The tropical cyclone warning number seven of the Forecasting Center of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) said that in the next 12 to 24 hours Ian will gain in organization and intensity.

The storm is located about 400 kilometers south of Kingston, Jamaica, and about 715 kilometers southeast of Grand Cayman Island.

The Forecasting Center of the Institute of Meteorology said that the phenomenon continues with few changes in its organization and intensity, so it remains with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour and higher gusts.

It also has a central pressure of 1003 hectopascal and its movement is heading west, now at 26 kilometers per hour.

According to the note, the center is keeping a close watch on the evolution of this tropical cyclone, due to the potential danger it represents for western Cuba.

It also warns that given its position and forecast trajectory, Ian could cause strong and intense winds and rains in this part of the Cuban territory and coastal flooding in low-lying areas of the southern coast as of Monday. (Source: PL)
