Havana, Nov 12 (RHC) Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, called today for the UN Conference on climate change to recognize the importance of financing developing countries to face the ravages of this global problem.

Through his Twitter account, the minister said: "We hope that COP27 adopts a decision recognizing the urgent need for financing for losses and damages caused by climate change in developing countries"... "these resources must be new, additional, adequate and predictable".

On Saturday, from the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh, where the summit is being held, the Cuban Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez, called for a greater global effort to reduce emissions of polluting gases.

The high-ranking official pointed out that this effort must be carried out under the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, and the fulfillment of the financing pledges by rich nations.

In an interview with the Egyptian television station Al Balad News, she pointed out that the island resolutely defends the efforts of developing countries to ensure the financial mechanisms required to face the losses and damages caused by climate change.

She added that Cuba advocates a better focus on the debates for the definition of a new financial goal, based on the needs of nations with fewer resources. (Source: PL)
