Tenth edition of EXPOALADI to be held in Cuba

Havana, Nov 17 (RHC) Cuba's First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Ana Teresita González Fraga announced Thursday that the tenth edition of EXPOALADI will be held from October 2 to 4, 2023, and will be hosted by the Island.

"The top promotional event of the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) will include a multisectoral macro business roundtable and exhibition areas at the Havana Convention Palace, which will contribute to boost and diversify intra-regional trade," she detailed at the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2022).

The deputy minister informed that among the main sectors to be promoted at the meeting will be biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, tourism, food and beverages, the metal-mechanic industry, and professional services.

"The event, which will be held in person again after three years of virtual celebration due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will receive between 600 and 800 people from the 13 member countries of the organization and other buyers from Latin America," she said.

González Fraga explained that ALADI is an international intergovernmental organization created in 1980, whose main objective is to promote the economic, social, harmonious, and balanced development of its member countries, through regional economic integration.

"It represents one of the most important markets in the world after the United States, the European Union, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations; and opens its field of action towards the rest of Latin America through multilateral links or partial agreements with other countries", she expanded.

She added that it also contemplates cooperation with other integration movements in the world and partial actions with third countries in terms of the economic development of all.

"To this end, it is committed to integration mechanisms such as regional tariff preference, partial scope agreements, and regional scope agreements," she said.

The Cuban official insisted that we need to advance in integration to achieve the true independence of our region: "it is a Latin American challenge to which EXPOALADI 2023 can contribute efficiently," she concluded. (Source: PL)
